This idea of lfting buildings up and down with minimal ease came from considering the termite or ant cap used on almost all timber queenslander structures. It involves taking the termite cap, and making it structural (i.e. a steel sleeve that slots over the timber stump. Within the top end of the steel sleeve sits another timber stump which is fixed to a prefabricated welded section which also houses one of the main bearers. This system allows the home owner to raise the building by the use of probably a hyrdaulic lift (TBC), and replace the sleeve with a longer one, in the event of an approaching flood. This is done by lifting underneath the steel plate that extends from the welded steel housing.
The design still needs resolving, as there are a number of issues, most notably:
* weight capacity of lifting aparatis
* time involved
